Morning

Drew just bopped in from the shop as he does throughout the day and randomly asked me, "how's life?" and I said "awesome" without missing a beat.  I was in the middle of cleaning up after breakfast and had been deep in thought about how much my new morning pace means to me.  Easing into the day is how I like to roll, especially when the day starts at the ass crack of dawn with Marguerite and a few hours later with a well rested Genevieve.

Here are the girls playing this morning,

easing into their imaginative day.

Quote of the Day

My kids are really getting in the way of my mom blog.

Thank Goodness for Poppies

Crown Princess Genevieve and I had a major brawl today.  She was mad that I didn't want to continue playing "Hawaii" with her.  She punished me by sitting on the porch and wailing, "I'm all alone!  Nobody is here with me!  I'm scared and lonely!  Mommy, Mommy, Mommy..."  It was dreadful.  For both me and the neighbors I'm sure.

Luckily she recovered from her fabricated abandonment and decided to paint,

while I took photos of the garden and regained my cool.

Party Shirt Detail, Vampire G and Peony Glory

Okay ladies, you asked for it.  Here's Drew's "party shirt,"

and "party shirt" detail.

 Dead sexy, huh?!

Now that I've damaged your retinas and sensibilities I'll offer you this token of vampire beauty,

and peony glory.

Vodka, Fire, and Glow in the Dark Jesus Hands

I could feel summer time in my bones yesterday, and it felt so good, or maybe it was that vodka tonic I enjoyed with Alyson by our backyard fire.

Alyson is one of the funniest people I know and quenches my thirst for a good belly laugh every time she visits.  Genevieve adores her too, and revels in the unlimited opportunity to apply powder and eye shadow to this pretty face.

Last night Genevieve developed a deep attachment to this Jesus figurine with bizarre glow in the dark hands.

There were endless opportunities to comment on finding Jesus, losing Jesus, swaddling Jesus, taking Jesus to the bathroom, sleeping next to Jesus, knowing Jesus, and sharing Jesus.  Sweet Jesus it was funny.

Make the World More Beautiful

The book "Miss Rumphius" by Barbara Cooney, is my favorite children's book in both illustration and prose.

"When I grow I up," I tell her, "I too will go to faraway places and come home to live by the sea."

"That is all very well, little Alice," says my aunt, "But there is a third thing you must do."

"What is that?" I ask.

"You must do something to make the world more beautiful."

"All right," I say.

Peaceful moments like this,

Give me a chance to make the world more beautiful, one garden bouquet at a time.

Quote of the Day

Genevieve:  When I'm a woman will I have a gigantic butt like you?
Me:  Come on G, it's not that big.
Genevieve:  I didn't say big mom, I said GIGANTIC.

Clumsy Exits, New Threads and Table Dancing

It's hard to pinpoint why this is so exciting to me - but my girls can now independently put on their own shoes and grab their own water supply when getting ready to leave the house.  I've never been a very graceful exiter, and since having kids the amount of time it takes me to get out the door annoys me almost as much as it annoys my husband.

Look at these capable little people:

Oh wait, be right back, I forgot my keys.  Whoops, we need to turn around I left my ID in my jeans in the hamper.  Well, while I'm in here, I might as well get another load started.  Sweet, found $5 in Drew's jeans, mine now.   I should buy myself something pretty.  Or maybe a drink.  Oh shit! They're all waiting for me in the car, I better get hustling.  After I pee.  And it's a little chilly, I should grab a layer....

Speaking of buying myself something pretty, I bought a new dress with the cash money I got from consigning the back of my closet.  You have to use your imagination to piece these pictures together into one well designed garment.  I'll start at the top:

And speaking of layers, my pink cashmere scarf, which I wear 90% of the time, has been absconded with by my daughters who have turned it in to a hammock for their doll Mae.  I miss it, even though this is pretty cute.  I also miss the ability to move chairs independently:

While working on art projects with the girls this morning I observed my own lackadaisical parenting style that results in Genevieve sometimes getting in trouble at preschool for standing on tables.  It obviously starts young around here:

As long as I keep them from monetizing naked table dancing as adults I think I've passed the test, right?!

Here's the final product of one art project.  Genevieve requested I spell out our WHOLE family's WHOLE names in stickers for her to bedazzle.  It spoke to my inner scrabble board so I complied:
